Sailing♥

Who would have ever guessed that I will like sailing so much?
It’s kind of amazing how I went into SP through Direct Polytechnic Admission
and I was arranged for a week of fantastic events, trying out different CCAs.
Only sailing caught my attention.

Maybe there are other things as well,
like I do want to learn how to Dive…
but Mummy didn’t approve of it.
Yet, when I said I want to join sailing, she gave me the green light.

It all started on 10 February  2010.
I was all hype up after after the morning in school.
I can’t remember what that was,
but I do remember having lunch at FC5
with my awesome group, Boaboa ❤

We took a bus to Poly Marina and all of us were going crazy on the bus.
I think we were cause I was singing some songs that we love.
Hahahas. I think it was the titanic song (: All thanks to camp.

The first ever boat that I try to sail is the Pacer :D

This photo was taken much later.

I guess I like the boat cause I don’t like to alone.
Laser has the speed that thrills me.
However, I don’t the fact that I have to be on board alone.
Not only do I have no one to talk to,
I will panic when something crops up.
Hence I need a really good partner with me.
Once in a while, sailing laser should be fine,
but still… I prefer the pacer.
It’s more stable and there’s spinnaker.
Even though I saw seniors rig the spinnaker a few times,
the first time I rig was still.. wrong. LOL
Its muchmuchmuch better now (:
Plus I have an awesome crew too ^^
So what matters is that my partner is good.
We can train our way up.

Here’s something more about Pacer.
It was actually a family yacht.
I guess that explains its wide hull.

Crew 2
LWL 12 feet (3.7 m)
Beam 4.9 feet (1.5 m)
Hull weight 130 pounds (59 kg)
Mast height 19 feet (5.8 m)
Mainsail area 65 square feet (6.0 m2)
JibGenoa area 20 square feet (1.9 m2)
Spinnaker area 80 square feet (7.4 m2)

Here’s some facts about the pacer.
I took it from Wikipedia.

After Pacer, I was transferred onto a Pico cause I wanted to capsize.
I guess one of the best few things about sailing is capsizing.
I like uprighting the boat. hahahas.
But of course, I do get tired after a few rounds.

Awesome PINK sail :D

  • Length: 3.50 m (11’6″)
  • Beam: 1.43 m
  • Hull weight: 60 kg
  • Mainsail: 5.1 m2
  • Race mainsail: 6.44 m2
  • Jib: 1.57 m2

Facts about Pico (:
It doesn’t have a Spinnaker though..

The most dreaded boat that I will want to sail is the laser.
I think this will offend quite a few people.. but.. I don’t care :p
It’s my own preference anyway.
Just like how some people don’t like to sail Pacer..
Actually, its not really a bad boat. Just that I don’t like it. Muahahahahahas

Wondering why there’s the same guy in all three photos?
LOL. Cause he’s my sailing partner :D

Having said the three classes of boats SPSCians usually sail,
I will show you my next ❤

Its kind of small. D;
I shall take one when I start to sail it.
Its similar to pacer,
but it has the speed of Laser as well. :D
Most importantly,
there isn’t the loneliness factor.
Wahahahahahahahahahahahahaha~

My dream for sailing..
I want to participate in races and earn Medals.
I’ve played netball,
but I’ve never gotten medal for it.
Kind of saddening right?

But I’m sure I will spend more time on 420!
I want to reach where I want to be (:
get a name for myself.

That’s so much about Me and My sailing :D

5 March 2011

It’s been more than a year since I’ve started sailing, and I’m proud to say that I’m improving. I’ve joined:

1. NSC Cup Series Finals
2. 34th Starhub Laser Open
3. CWSS Beer Race
4. ST Marine 8th SAFYC Dinghy Championship

These are the regattas and so far I’ve gotten a third in the passage race.
I promise to continue working hard. Yes, and improve as a sailor. (:

16 October 2011

I’ve decided to leave the NSC team.
Too many things, too complicated.
I still do like the sport, but I got to take some time off and sort things out.

Yesterday, I was back at Poly Marina to do my Power Pleasure Craft Driving License (PPCDL) Practical Assessment and I couldn’t help but miss the place. Like I have a sense of belonging there. I left my stuff in the room and went to take a look at the Picos and Lasers. Kind of miss the sea. Continued to where the Pacers and 420s sit. Wondering why they weren’t covered properly and I started to tidy them up.

I guess people got to learn to take ownership of things and have that sense of belonging.

I’m still wondering when will I get back to it.
Not so soon I guess. I gotta sort out my personal matters first.

Was chatting with Captain Sahwan about the club issues.
Some one got to step in and correct things,
but I guess even if I want to, its not the time yet.
Shall just wait and anticipate for the time to come.

Till then,
I will slowly find my way back to where I want to be.

Something to write about what I’ve done so far.
Before I forget.
Gotta use it for NYAA.

My first task after I stepped up as Vice-President of the club was to over see the recruiting of the Year 1s. For the recruitment, we had to do a CCA road show and an FO Camp.

Roadshow:

We were given a booth located at the area outside FC5. There was quite a few things to prep. We did a photo collage to show the pasts events that  we did. Also, we brought down a Laser to showcase. It was a three day event and I went down whenever I had free slots. Everyday, before the start of the cca show case, we would set up the booth and rig up the laser. Medals were also on display.

The road show was quite successful. We had over a 100 people who signed up and eventually, around 60 of them turned up camp.

FO Camp:

I was appointed as one of the group leaders. The two day one night camp was pretty awesome. We had loads of games and two sailing session. Even though on the first day, the wind was not as good, but second day the wind picked up. (: The kids really enjoyed themselves.

I picked red for my group and I made them wear red for the first day of the camp.

Here’s my team! Mostly in red. :D

It was a really fun 2 day one night camp.
It was pretty short and there were loads of problems.
So what is needed to be done is just..
Learn from our mistakes and move on.

FO Camp is important in the sense that it leaves the campers the impression of how the club is like.
The number of sign ups was not bad. :D

Sailors turned up for training after that and attend their Basic Sailing Course.
There was a total of two classes during the June break.

I remember I was out one week for regatta.
It was the 23rd Singapore Laser Trophy!

The regatta was tough with challenging wind.
I finished 22 out of 32 sailors.
and 17th was my best race.
I guess I ain’t that good,
More training required!
